Bio-Solacell is a non-penetrative biosolar PV mounting system designed for use with Alumasc biodiverse green roof systems. The system incorporates photovoltaic arrays within the green roof build-up and is primarily intended for new build projects where renewable energy generation, biodiversity enhancement and sustainable drainage requirements are considered as part of the roof design.
Bio-Solacell is supplied by Alumasc as part of a complete roofing package, incorporating the waterproofing, green roof and biosolar PV mounting system. This provides a single source solution for system design, component compatibility and warranty provision. Installation is carried out by an Alumasc Registered Contractor in accordance with Alumasc specifications.
Vegetation can help improve photovoltaic panel performance by reducing surrounding temperatures through evapotranspiration. In addition to supporting PV efficiency, vegetated roof systems can help reduce the urban heat island effect by lowering roof surface temperatures.
Bio-Solacell is available for warm roof and inverted roof constructions and has been designed to maintain the integrity of the waterproofing membrane. Bio-Solacell Warm is torched directly to the bituminous waterproofing membrane, whilst Bio-Solacell Inverted utilises the green roof substrate and vegetation as ballast for the PV array.
Biodiverse roof finishes are supplied as a seed mix or wildflower mat, allowing vegetation to establish naturally over time. Seed mixes can be selected to suit project-specific biodiversity requirements and desired vegetative outcomes.
Specify Bio-Solacell where planning requirements call for on-site renewable energy generation and ecological enhancement measures. The system is particularly suited to projects targeting BREEAM credits, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements and wider sustainability objectives. Suitable for both warm roof and inverted roof constructions, Bio-Solacell can be incorporated within both new build and refurbishment projects, subject to structural loading requirements.
